Project Selection with Application - Pg. 5 The first step you need to get your project started is to pick a project. There are many project idea sources on the internet, but we would like you to think about your interests and come up with an original idea. Many of the best projects are projects that attempt to answer a real world question or solve a problem.
**Students that are NOT competing in the science fair, will be assigned a project by their science teacher.**

Once you teacher has approved one of your project you will need to identify your problem and variables of your project.
Problem- What are you testing with this project? Make this 1-2 sentences that asks the main question behind your project. Be specific as to what you are trying to solve. Independent Variable- What you are testing/changing in the experiment? This should be only one thing. Dependent Variable- What data are you measuring/collecting in the experiment? This should be the thing that changed as a because of your experimentation. Example: height, weight, heart rate, etc. Controlled Variables- What do you have to keep the same in the experiment? This should be an extensive list of things your are controlling by keeping the same to make sure your experiment is as accurate as possible. Example: measuring device, quantity of a substance, temperature, etc. |
