Research Paper Planning- Pg. 8
With the internet and an entire media center at your disposal finding relevant research for your project paper can be an overwhelming task. In most cases you will not find a single source that will tell you everything you will need to know about your project. The best thing you can do is break your project down into easier parts to research and put those parts together in a single paper. The parts we would like you to focus on in your research paper is the history behind your project, the science behind your project, and the importance/application of your project.
Brainstorm with your parents, friends, and science teacher to find different topics you can look up for each part of your research. Use key words and phrases that are related to your project to look up the all of the aspects of your project. |
Research Paper Notes - Pgs. 9-13
For this section of your project you will find five reputable sources that you will use to write you research paper with. These sources should include enough information to fully support the three sections of your research paper (history, science, and application).
At least one of your research notes has to be from a book (Use your science text book or check out the school or local public library). If you find some of your research information online it must come from a reputable website!! This does not include Wikipedia, ask jeeves, about.com, etc. because those sites can be edited by the public and are not always accurate. Instead try use websites that end in .org, .edu, or . gov since they are normally reliable sources of information. When you find research notes relevant to your paper topic make fill out the research paper notes page for that source. Make sure you get the citation information from the source in order to fill out your works cited page (Page 14) Include as much citation information as possible on page 14 since you will need that later to make your works cited in order to avoid plagiarism. Summarize the key facts you learned from that document in the space provided (make sure those facts are relevant and useful to your paper). Complete the DBQ practice questions on each page to ensure that you understand the importance on that document and its relevance to your paper. |
